U18's BACK ON TOP
The U18's were facing their rivals for top spot Oakleigh on Sunday and the team was determined to get back on top where they belong. After a disappointing nil all draw last week with Knox we had to win this game. Oakleigh bought along some of their top players and the game did not disappoint with Alex bought down in the first 2 minutes of the game, resulting in us taking a free kick near goal and their player getting a yellow card for his efforts. It was a nail biting first half with both teams having chances and some dramatic saves by defenders on the line. Avish in goal had never seen so much of the ball but he put in a great performance.
After half time we knew we had to score and after a few great runs Kenny managed to get one in and the whole team and our spectators were ecstatic. It continued to be a hard fought game with both teams getting a yellow each in the 2nd half, the whole team played to the best of their abilities. Sam managed to slip in a 2nd goal and things were looking good (their spectators were claiming offside but they were a bit biased). The defence of Darren, Tze Kin, Nick, Pasindu and Salvie withstood the challenge well. Matey was all over the ground and James, Sharan Gilbert and Josh all contributed to the win. With scores at 2-0 we continued to attack but unfortunately with 10 minutes to go Oakleigh put in a shot which was helped across the line as an own goal. The last 10 minutes were desperate as we had to hang on and when the whistle finally blew the boys were on top of the world and the ladder again.
I would like to congratulate the boys for their great efforts and Vlasi and Chris for coaching them without losing a game this season so far. Christian kept the bench warm on Sunday and Victor, James J and Toby were missing Sunday but they have also contributed over the season to the teams success.
